Volleyball
The volleyball team looks to continue its streak of two consecutive ECAC Championships this year. The team has already gotten off to a 10?0 start.
The Tartans took first place at the first two tournaments they played. Their first games were at the Marietta College tournament, where they defeated Urbana, Wooster, Ohio Valley, and Dennison. Amanda Bradford and Chrissy Bartek were named to the all-tournament team.
The team?s next games came at the Baldwin-Wallace Tournament which was held on September 10 and 11 in Berea, Ohio.
In their first game on September 10, Carnegie Mellon beat Baldwin-Wallace with a score of 3?2. In game two, Carnegie Mellon defeated Kenyon College with a score of 3?0.
On September 11, Carnegie Mellon continued on the semi-finals beating Hope College 3?0 and defeating Capital College in the championship round with a final score of 3?1.
Outside hitter Chrissy Bartek was named UAA Volleyball Athlete of the Week for her play in the tournament. She averaged 5.27 kills a game, and scored 30 kills in the championship game. Her performance in the championship was only the second time in the history of the CMU team where a player had 30 or more kills in a match. Catie Fisher was also named to the all-tournament team.
The Tartans then defeated Washington & Jefferson 3?0 at home on Wednesday.
The next volleyball game will be during the Carnegie Mellon Crossover on Friday and Saturday at 2 pm. Attending this tournament will be teams from Capital, Mt. Union, Ithaca, RIT, Nazareth, John Carroll and Muskingum.
