April 19, 1955

The Spring Carnival Committee worked hard on planning for the year?s festivities, scheduled to start on May 5. One of the most highly anticipated events was the Faculty Egg-Throwing Contest, which had been inaugurated the previous year. For the first time, fraternity booths on the Cut were to be judged.

April 22, 1980

Carnival?s theme was ?New York, New York?; 22 groups entered the booth competition. The winners in the independent division were Lambda Sigma, with a ?Central Park? design, and Student Alumni Relations Council, for their ?Studio 54? design. The winners in the sorority division were Delta Gamma, for the ?Stock Exchange? booth, and Chi Omega, for their ?Metropolitan Opera? booth. The winners in the fraternity division were Sigma Alpha Epsilon, for their ?Broadway? booth, Kappa Sigma, for their ?Brooklyn Bridge? booth; and Delta Upsilon, for their ?Blackout? booth.

April 10, 1995

AB Lectures brought Billy West to speak during Carnival. West was known for being the voice of the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee; Doug, from the Nickelodeon show of the same name; and both Ren and Stimpy from The Ren and Stimpy Show. West spoke about the growing problem of television?s being blamed for children?s behavior, mentioning one incident in which a child had burnt down a house after watching Beavis and Butthead and another in which children lay down in the middle of a street after watching The Program.

A late cancellation by George Clinton led to Strangefolk?s being the headlining band for Carnival. Students reacted indifferently to the band, with whom few students were familiar. Stand-up comedians Eddie Ifft and Gary Greenburg were also relatively unknown, but were well received, in spite of interruptions by drunken audience members. Carnival Committee defended their choices, claiming that Clinton canceled so late (March) that it was nearly impossible to save the event.

PiKA swept both men?s and women?s buggy, setting a new women?s course record in the process. PiKA?s B team won the men?s race after their A team had been disqualified, marking the third year in a row that PiKA had won the men?s race. A new Mobot course record was set by masters ECE student Josh Pieper, whose robot completed the course in one minute and one second.
