Jon Hall receives Academic All-American of the Year from ESPN the Magazine
Five members of the men’s soccer team were honored this week by ESPN The Magazine with the release of its annual CoSIDA All-Academic teams. Junior defender and co-captain Jonathan Hall was named the College Division Academic All-American of the Year, the highest honor awarded by the committee.
ATHLETE PROFILE: Breck Fresen
Senior Breck Fresen has had a perpetual “runner’s high” throughout his career at Carnegie Mellon, excelling on the cross country course in the fall and the racetrack in the spring, as well as in the classroom and with extracurriculars. Fresen concluded his final collegiate cross country season at the NCAA Championship held Saturday with a 145th finish, the third-best finish for the Tartans at this year’s national meet. Although Fresen runs 80 miles a week, The Tartan was able to catch up with him to chat about his experience as a computer science major at Carnegie Mellon and representing the Tartans in athletic competition.
SAAC hosts first annual Tartan Olympics in 2009
The first annual Tartan Olympics, hosted by the Carnegie Mellon Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) the weekend of Jan. 23–25, calls for various student organizations to participate in this multi-contest event to celebrate school spirit through competition. Each organization will choose 10–12 representatives to compete in the Tartan Olympics in an attempt to draw the student body closer together and promote Tartan pride as SAAC hopes to facilitate open communication between student groups and the athletic community.
